The Tavern Bar on Shell Island opened in 1977, The Queens' Jubilee year. That year the bar opened with two breweries supplying . These are same two we still use today. In fact thereis one beer that we serve, that hasn't changed since day one. Carling Black label!! We are now selling Purple Moose Draught, a new local beer at only £2.00 a pint !!! Wey Hey!!

The Tavern acts as the hub of Shell Islands ' social scene. with various types of entertainment during the weeknights. Weekends are naturally busier with the extra week enders coming down. The Tavern adjoins the Snack bar which doubles up in the evening as a function hall.

The Tavern was converted from one of the old cow sheds with the roof having fallen in in 1972 it became essential that something would have to be done and in 1976 building work was started in earnest.

Outside the Tavern there is a large terrace which used to be part of the old road onto Shell Island . Today it is a useful place to sit and chat on warm days looking out over the estuary and looking onto the childrens' playground.

Karaoke Evenings were started at the Tavern in 1998 and these have proved to be very popular. Usually Karaokes have been arranged for Monday nights with the children competeing first for a box or Jar of Sweets. At 9.45 things hot up when the Adults search for a star and usually find one. Eveyone takes part in the Judging at 11.00 by watching the 3 finalists sing three different songs(just to make it a bit harder) The applause is all and the finalist with the best applause carries off the bottle of Champers!

Quiz night is on Tuesday night. Started about 1994 with just 20 questions today we have a 10 picture picture round plus fifty questions. All that is played for is a four pack of beer or a bottle of wine.

Live Band Wednesday night is live band night. We haven't arranged who will be singing live this year yet but we will keep you posted! !

Thurday Night is Disco Night ! Appealing to the 18 - 30 year olds and a GREAT night is enjoyed by all !

These nights only run through 2nd half of July and August. Weekends we do not have entertainment as we find we are busy enough.
