Facilities at Shell Island

Most of Shell Island’s facilities are conveniently located in the centre of the Island, behind the leisure complex. Below is an overview of everything available to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.

Toilets & Showers

Our Main Toilet Block offers everything you need for comfort and convenience during your visit:

• Large male and female sections, each with multiple toilets and sinks (plus urinals in the men’s).

• Spacious family units available in both sections.

• Baby baths and changing units provided for families with young children.

In addition to the main block, there are six separate toilet blocks located around the site (excluding the sand dune area).
Five of these blocks each include an accessible toilet, ensuring facilities are available for all visitors wherever you are on Shell Island.

• Showers (directly behind the main toilets):

  • Spacious cubicles, each with a changing area and seat.

  • Comfortable, single-temperature water controlled by push-button.

  • Ladies’ shower area includes:

    • A large make-up/hair room with mirrors and plug sockets.

    • A baby bath.

  • Free hairdryers are provided in both men’s and ladies’ showers.

  • Opening times: 8:00 am – 1:00 pm (closed for cleaning), then 3:00 pm – 10:00 pm.

  • Extra showers may be available in the nearby green cabin during busy periods.

• Disabled Facilities: A separate disabled toilet and shower room is available attached to the main shower block (RADAR key required) plus a Radar key accesable disabled toilet available in the snack bar.

Waste Disposal & Water

• Chemical/Elsan Waste: Disposal point located beside the main toilet block.

• Grey Waste: Drive-over grey waste point located in front of the chemical waste area.

  • Important: Please do not empty chemical waste in any toilet blocks.

• Water Supply:

  • Taps are located around the site, usually on white posts near gateways.

  • Intended for filling water containers only.

  • Water pressure can be low during busy times, so it’s best to fill containers early morning or evening.

  • Reliable water taps are always available at the side of the main toilet block.

• Dish Washing: A dishwashing area is provided at the back of the shower block. Please use a bowl and leave the area clean after use.

Reception & Information

• Reception staff are available to help with any problems or questions.

• Tourist information leaflets, local guides, and a regularly updated weekly weather forecast are available.

Security

• On-site security team patrols regularly and can be contacted directly or visited at their base in the main car park (by the barriers).

• They are always happy to help with any concerns.

Other Facilities

• Rubbish: Skips are provided around the Island. Please avoid leaving rubbish outside as seagulls may scatter it. Wheelie bins are also available along the main beach.

• Recycling

  We’re committed to keeping Shell Island clean and protecting our beautiful environment.

  You’ll find a large recycling area located in the centre of the Island, with clearly marked bins for:

  • Plastic

  • Glass

  • Paper and Card

  • Tins and Cans

  Please help us keep the Island tidy by sorting your waste into the correct bins before disposal.

• Laundrette: Located next to the supermarket, open 24 hours (coin-operated).

• Children’s Play Park: Located outside the bar and snack bar.

• Games Room: Attached to the bar and snack bar, with pool tables, arcade games, and penny pushers.

• Sports Room: A facility between the bar and games room, with three TVs showing various sports. (Majority preference applies when selecting channels.)

• Doggie shower: A newly installed dog shower so you can wash away the sand from a fun filled day on the beach 
• Car charging : We have 3 chargers available at Reception. These are charged at 51p per KW and payable at Reception. 

Safety

• 30 fire extinguisher points are located around the Island. Every camping pitch is within 100 metres of one

• We have 2 Defibrillators available onsite, 1 located at the Gatehouse (24 hrs) and 1 located at Reception (Reception hours)
