Shell Island – Terms & Conditions for Online Bookings

1. Booking Process

All Shell Island camping bookings must be made online using our “Book Now” feature.

Please follow these steps carefully:

1. Select your dates and enter the number of people staying.

   • We charge per person, not per pitch.

   • Everyone staying must be included on your booking. Anyone not listed may be refused entry if the site is full.

2. Add extras such as dogs, boats, etc., once your dates are confirmed. (Please review our Dog Policy before booking)

3. Enter all guest details, including full names and dates of birth.

4. Review your booking carefully before payment — especially your dates — as changes may not be possible after confirmation.

5. Create an account if you’re a new customer, or log in if you’ve booked with us before.

6. Once logged in, you’ll be directed to our secure payment provider to complete full payment.

   • We do not accept deposits.

   • Unpaid (provisional) bookings are held for 24 hours only, after which they are automatically cancelled.

When your booking is confirmed, you’ll receive an email with your booking number and barcode — please present this on arrival.

All bookings are manually checked; confirmation emails may take a short time to process. By completing a booking, you agree to all Shell Island Terms & Conditions and enter into a binding contract.

2. Prices

All prices shown on our website are correct at the time of publication and include VAT.

3. Subletting or Transferring Bookings

Bookings are non-transferable. You may not:

• Sublet or transfer your booking.

• Sell, trade, or resell any part of your stay on any platform.

For cancellation information, see Section 4 below.

4. Cancellation Policy

Please read this policy carefully before booking. Once confirmed, you agree to the following terms:

Full Payment

Full payment is required to confirm your booking.

Cancelling 42 Days or More Before Arrival

• A refund will be issued minus the admin fee.

• Alternatively, we may change your dates.

• The original booking date will still apply for cancellation policy purposes.

Cancelling Between 42 Days and 48 Hours Before Arrival

• You’ll receive a credit note (minus admin fee) equal to the value of your booking.

• Credit notes are valid until the end of the 2027 season and will expire after this date.

• If you use your credit note to make another booking and then cancel that booking, the credit will retain its original expiry date. Cancelling and rebooking will not extend or restart the validity period of the original credit note

Cancelling Less Than 48 Hours Before Arrival

• No credit or refund will be given.

• All payments will be forfeited.

We strongly advise taking out travel insurance to cover unforeseen circumstances such as illness, flooding, natural disasters, industrial action, or other events beyond our control.

Please note: Cancellations due to weather are subject to the same policy.

5. Cancellations or Changes by Us

We may cancel bookings that breach our terms (e.g., unauthorised large or single-sex groups).

• You’ll receive a cancellation email and a refund minus the admin fee.

• We are not liable for additional costs resulting from cancellation.

If we must cancel or amend your booking due to unforeseen circumstances, we will contact you directly using your registered email.

6. Early or Late Departures

• No credit or refund is given for late arrivals or fewer guests unless agreed at least 48 hours before your arrival date.

• If you leave early, you may receive a credit note for unused nights — only if you return your car pass at reception before 3pm.

7. Using Credit Notes or Gift Vouchers

To redeem a credit note or gift voucher:

1. Make your booking online as normal.

2. In the Special Requests box (at 80% of the booking process), mention your credit note or voucher amount.

3. Do not pay — close the payment page.

4. We’ll apply your credit and email you either:

   • A provisional booking (if balance remains) to complete payment, or

   • A confirmation if the credit covers the full amount.

Credit notes:

• Cannot be refunded once issued.

• Must be used within validity dates.

• Will be forfeited if you do not show up or cancel late.

• If you use your credit note to make another booking and then cancel that booking, the credit will retain its original expiry date. Cancelling and rebooking will not extend or restart the validity period of the original credit note

Gift vouchers must be presented upon arrival.

8. Booking Restrictions & Onsite Rules

Before booking, ensure your accommodation and group meet our requirements:

• Caravans, pods, or trailers with sleeping areas or solid sides/roofs are not permitted.

• No jet skis, Surrons, Stingers, quads, or drones allowed onsite.

• Dogs:

  • Breeds listed under the Dangerous Dogs Act, including XL Bullies (even if licensed), are not allowed.

  • Dogs must be kept on a lead or tethered at all times unless in designated areas.

• Groups:

  • We are a family and couples’ campsite.

  • Unauthorised or single-sex groups will be refused entry or asked to leave.

  • Organised groups must be pre-authorised by phone.

9. Pre-Arrival Information

Vehicles

• Maximum of 2 vehicles per booking. (if you do bring additional vehicles they will be chargable at £5.00 per vehicle 

• All registration numbers must be provided before arrival.

• Additional vehicles require a separate booking.

Tides

Access to Shell Island is via a tidal causeway that floods at certain times.
Check tide times on our website before travelling.

Never attempt to cross when the road is flooded.

Check-In / Check-Out

• Check-in: 8am–8pm daily, Fridays until 9pm (tide dependent).

• Late arrivals will stay in a temporary field overnight.

• Check-out: By 3pm on the day of departure.

Extensions

Stays may not be extended during busy periods. Unauthorised overstays will be charged double for additional nights.

Wristbands

During busy times, all guests aged 3+ must wear wristbands at all times.
Lost wristbands are chargeable.

Payment Security

Payments are processed securely via Sage Pay (3D Secure).
Shell Island does not store card details.
Refunds may take up to 3 working days to process.

Minimum / Maximum Stays

• Minimum stays may apply during bank holidays or school breaks — check our Prices Page before booking.

• Maximum online booking: 14 nights. Longer stays may be booked separately.

Pitch Allocation

Pitches are not allocated — you may choose your spot on arrival.

10. Behaviour & Liability

• Unruly or malicious behaviour will result in immediate removal from the site with no refund.

• The company reserves the right to terminate any booking at any time.

We accept no responsibility for:

• Injury, loss, or damage to property caused by fire, theft, weather, animals, or any third party.

• Acts of God, natural disasters, or any event beyond our control.

We strongly recommend holiday insurance.

11. Our Rights

• The proprietors reserve the right to amend or waive conditions at their discretion.

• Entry may be refused to any individual — before or after arrival — with a refund provided if applicable.

• Security checks may be conducted using our internal database.

12. Data Protection

Your booking information is securely stored and used only for booking purposes.
We will never sell or share your data.
For data protection purposes, completing a booking constitutes consent under the Data Protection Act 1984.
